Pink Dot 2012: Bring your pink lights!
Come make Pink Dot this 30th June 2012 at Hong Lim Park, Singapore.
I have always attended the Pink Dot events without fail & this year shall not be an exception. Our country’s very own version of a pride parade & I am very proud to be a part of this movement to ask for equal rights for my fellow LGBT friends & I.
This is an aerial photograph of last year’s (2011) Pink Dot event in Singapore, held at Hong Lim Park. Because the right to assembly is limited (or rather, nonexistent) in authoritarian Singapore, LGBT Singaporeans have decided to form an event that celebrates the freedom to love, and be loved, regardless of one’s sexual orientation. This is the closest we can get to a Pride parade but it’s okay, we can still have fun.
Last year’s event drew about 10,000 Singaporeans from all walks of life, families included. We basically filled up the entire city park, even spilled out of it! Very exciting.
I wonder how many people will turn up this year. Very exciting times for Singapore, where consensual homosexual intercourse betwen two men has yet to be decriminalised! Yes! Its still a crime to wham bam here in spite of being a First World country. How odd!
